We are a small-batch roasting company on a mission to redefine what a truly great cup of coffee can be. Every roast is carefully pushed to that perfect point where the bean’s natural character and the craft of roasting come alive together. That sweet spot is what we call the Wake Zone.
Coffee has been part of our lives for nearly two decades. Our journey started humbly, volunteering in a church café where we learned the fundamentals of serving people through coffee. Over the years, our curiosity grew into a full-blown passion. Finding consistently great coffee became harder than expected, which led us to connect with local roasters, experiment at home, and eventually start roasting ourselves.
When we moved back to Northern Illinois in 2018, good coffee options were scarce. What began as a desperate attempt to make a better cup at home quickly turned into an obsession. After plenty of smoke alarms, hand-cranked batches, and late-night experiments, we finally started producing coffee we were proud to share.
Since then, Wake Zone has grown from a stovetop roaster to farmers markets, pop-ups, and now the exciting step toward our own shop. We’ve built this company side-by-side as a family, pouring the same care into our coffee that we do into the community around us.
Quality starts at the source. We work hard to obtain beans from suppliers and farmers who share our commitment to excellence and ethical practices. Many of our coffees are traded directly from the farm, which means smaller lots, seasonal offerings, and exceptionally fresh beans.
You’ll notice our lineup changes throughout the year. That’s intentional. Coffee is an agricultural product, and we follow the harvest cycles rather than warehouse inventory. We roast fresh to order so your coffee arrives at its peak, not months past it.
